Please Help: "Hard Drive Failure My Inspiron has failed to boot from the hard drive on two occasions, giving me a disturbing message, "Hard drive failure," followed by something about a bootable disk, etc. This has now happened twice, and it is followed by an unnerving clicking noise, similar to when the system is looking for a floppy disk in a drive that doesn't have a disk in it.
The laptop has only the removable CD drive installed when this happens. No hardware changes have been made on the computer.

If no new hardware was added or you continue to get this prompt, verify no error or conflictions exist in CMOS. Press the indicated key to enter setup and verify that all settings are correct. Got the same error on my PowerEdge When I connect the 3 power supplies, the error was gone. My PE has 2 power supplies, only one was connected but theres no error like this. Hope this help. FYI, I just had the same issue with a , and it turned out that the bios somehow detected a keyboard error there is an el cheapo KVM switch connected.
